Burger 🍔 Day

I couldn't possibly let Burger Day pass without a mention!

National Burger Day

With a supposed 1.3 billion burgers eaten every year in the UK it's no surprise that a Burger Day had been added to the calendar!

There are a plethora of different burgers to choose from these days - regular or smash; single or double; lamb, ham, chicken, fish ... toppings ranging from hash browns to cheesy Doritos, jalapeños and gherkins to anchovies and capers. The possibilities are quite literally endless!
I don't know about you but when I'm browsing those takeaway menus now I'm always taken aback by the constant new additions to the burger options available, there seems to be more every time! There was once a day you would only have the choice to ring and you'd ask for a beef burger, cheese burger, or chicken burger. No fancies, no frills, just the meat inside a burger bun with a bit of lettuce and sauce at a stretch.
According to the Mirror, chicken tops the charts though as the preferred filling with nearly a quarter of votes.

Smash burgers weren't a thing (though I can wholeheartedly understand why they are because yummmm, anything beyond cheese was living life on the edge. I remember when hash browns first became a burger staple and that seeming "out there" at the time, and now they're a given on most of them. It's strange isn't it how food changes over time, how recipes adjust, how our needs and wants seem to become more complicated.
After becoming gluten free, finding the perfect burger bun took some time, but I've grown to love my favourite beef burger topped with crispy bacon, lettuce and mayo on a beautiful brioche bun. So, so yummy.
I do sometimes find myself craving the simplicity of a hamburger though. Just a lovely, juicy quarter pounder plain burger patty with a little bit of lettuce on a brioche roll.
I asked a few people I know about this and the results were quite varied to be honest - more than I expected anyway!
We had:
- crispy chicken fillet topped with cheese, hash brown, burger sauce, lettuce and tomato
- beef burger with just cheese, lettuce and cucumber, no sauce
- beef burger with tomatoes, peppered cheese and mayo
- grilled chicken burger with aaaall the salad toppings (lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onions, peppers), and smothered in salad cream (what?!)
- beef burger with cheese, tomato, onions, loads of gherkins, lettuce and burger sauce

If you had to choose your favourite burger, what would it be?
