Gluten Free

We decided to start hosting gluten free events at the shop earlier this year, after noticing an increase in customers asking for our gluten free goodies and meals at general service times.

What are Sarah's Chocolate Kitchen gluten free nights?

They are essentially evenings set aside to serve goods that have no gluten in them, so anybody attending knows that everything on offer is suitable for them to eat without having to check the menu top to bottom, back to front and inside out, and without worrying about cross contamination.

As a coeliac gal myself this is something we take very, very seriously in our shop. We know that gluten consumption can have dire consequences for some people and, despite what the media might try and have people believe, we know the need for gluten free food is far from a fad.

We do our utmost to remain cross contamination free at all times but these events just take off that extra edge for all involved. How nice is it to go into a restaurant and for *everything* that is on the menu in front of you suitable for you?

The first one was a huge success and we had a really busy night but, naturally, the novelty wore off by the third one and takings were slower and steadier. There could be a multitude of reasons for this and it's not something I'm allowing myself to get worked up or stressed over, as these things do come and go, but I've decided to hold off hosting anymore of these now until next year.

We try to make sure our menu is suitable for as many dietary options as possible, so think that maybe people learning most of our goodies and meals are already available as gluten free or can be changed to be gluten free takes the need away for us to hold regular gluten free nights and it might be something we explore hosting maybe once or twice annually, with added extras. I'm thinking secret menus, taste testing boards, weird whacky and wonderful food in all the best ways.

Would love to know your thoughts about what you'd like to see from us for this though, as it's your opinion that matters the most to us.

I'm hoping with having an extended break between now and the next one that the excitement for it will return and people will be more inclined to attend allergy specific events. Time will tell, and I will definitely update you all in the new year when I know what's what.
