National Cheese Pizza Day - Thursday 5th September

Who doesn't love a pizza?

One of my absolute favourite foods and one of the things I would have been devastated to stop eating when I became gluten free, had I not found a suitable alternative for the dough. Apparently enough people love it to make it a national holiday day so that's what we are celebrating today! Guess what's for lunch...

Though it's exact date of origin is unknown, or believed pizza originated in Naples in the 1800s, but pizza-like foods can be dated right back to the Romans, with flatbread being consumed regularly (history.com)

Since then, the sheer amount of options available to us to enjoy has grown astronomically!

Fish topped, meat topped, all the variations of veg, even some fruits (the pineapple pizza debate is a post for another day!) ... the base sauces ranging from tomato to bbq to a garlic butter. There's thick bases, thin bases, stuffed crusts and even the folded variety. Orders vary from one person to the next, and that communal 14" pizza for a family to share has become a 7" or 9" pizza per person instead so everyone can have their preference.

Cheese Pizza Day was created as a celebration of the simple, back to basics, tomato and mozzarella topped dough we all know and love. There are so many variations of pizza these days that it's nice to just take it back and remember its humble beginnings.

What's your favourite pizza?

I'm stuck in my ways with this one and have to say my absolute fave is a thin and crispy base topped with mozzarella, ham, mushroom and green pesto. So, so yummy.

Home Ed Pizza Making Session

One of the activities I love to do with Alfie is baking and making food. Since we started home schooling him earlier this year, we've been finding ways to keep him entertained and socialised, as well as focusing on his education, as the social aspect of his learning is just as important. Knowing there are many parents in the same situation as we are, we've decided to start running our own home education sessions.

We have a few coming up, but in the spirit of celebrating Cheese Pizza Day, I wanted to share our pizza making session here.

The session is suitable for children aged 5 to 15, with the cost being as low as possible as we know how difficult it is to find funded or partially funded options for home schooled children.
