Snow or Sun???
We're on that cusp now aren't we, where the seasons are changing - crisp mornings, afternoon sun, cool evenings... feels like something ethereal is in the air. We are officially moving into the spooky season and before we know it, that festive fun will be on our doorstep!
The big question is... are you sad to see the back of summer or are you glad winter weather is on its way? Are you a sun person, or a snow person?
I'd have to say I'm a bit of both. Nothing beats that winter sun beaming on your face whilst hearing the crunch of freshly fallen snow under your feet at the same time. It could have been like that for us on our recent getaway to Austria. When I've been at this time of year in the past it's been a nice 16-20° and there's occasionally September snow fall... but, this year, we arrived to severe weather warnings, absolutely freezing, and ended up getting to the point of abandoning our pre-booked accommodation for somewhere warmer (poor Michael's credit card!)
If you had to choose a winter holiday would you opt for a beautiful beach with the sun beaming, or are you in the Alps skiing down the slopes, surrounded by a white blanket of fluffy snow?
Though I am a sucker for a weekend city break, there's nothing quite like escaping the British rain to lounge around a cool pool, getting a tan, with a mocktail in hand.
I think one of the ultimate dreams though for so many people (me included) is to take a trip to Lapland, not only to soak in the magic of the "real" Santa, but to hopefully get a good glimpse of the Northern Lights.
The snow gives you an excuse to have a slower day, to get wrapped up cosy and chill in front of the fire, without feeling the obligation to get out and do something or to sight see. It helps you forgive a "lazy day" where you might feel obliged to make the most of the sun if you opt to go somewhere with a warmer climate. Evidently, I just can't make up my mind which I'd prefer. Both are perfect holidays in their know right, so for me it makes it difficult to choose.
I know others are vehemently one or the other though, no two ways about it.
