Sunsets - Best places to view them..

Sunset, sea and sand - is there anything more calming?

Something about watching the sun set behind the horizon, sand underneath my feet and a breeze flowing through my hair makes me really feel at one with the world... it also makes me feel incredibly miniscule in all that we sit amongst though.

I don't know what it is, it just feels... magic.

I've spoken quite a bit recently about wanting to be more present and away from technology, and this is definitely one of the ways to do that. One of my favourite things to have done this summer was to spontaneously pack a little bag and head to the seaside in the evening to watch the sun set with Alfie. The end of a day, with a new, fresh start in the morning.

Earlier this week we took a trip to Seven Sisters in Sussex - believed to be one of the ten most beautiful places to watch the sunset in the UK (see more here: www.nationwidevehiclecontracts.co.uk/blog/chasing-sunsets-the-uks-most-stunning-locations-revealed

It's an amazing place to go hiking with various trails and terrains, and the reward of sitting high on the white chalk cliffs whilst the sky changes from blue to those orange and pinks, before night time falling, is something else.

The best sunset I've ever seen in my life was way back when I was 17 years old in the Bahamas with family, and watching the sun disappear behind the waves was a feeling I just can't put into words. I still remember it now. I don't have any pictures because it wasn't the "done thing" back then, but I don't think pictures would do it justice anyway truth be told. I wish I had the words to really put you there though, to experience it as I was and to see it how I did. I'll never forget it.

What's the most beautiful sunset you've ever witnessed? Do they hold meaning to you?

I have a friend (shared with permission) who visits the beach on the same day every year to watch the sun set, on what would be her little boy's birthday had he survived. When we've spoken about it before she's said it's because that's where and when she feels closest to him - almost as though it's a door way opening to let them be connected on a day that's special to him, and to experience it on the beach because he was such a water baby when growing in her tummy. She said she also thinks that it's a reminder every year that endings can hold beauty too, as well as the hope that a new beginning will follow.

For others I know it might not be that deep, and to just see them is wonderful without meaning.

For me, they light a little joyful spark in me. When I see a sunset I'm acutely aware that we've made it through another day, and how lucky I am to be there to see it when at times in my life I fully believed I wouldn't.

I would love to hear your sunset stories, if you have one.
