World Book Day - Creative Competition 2026

📚 WORLD BOOK DAY – LET’S CELEBRATE CREATIVITY (WITHOUT THE COSTUME STRESS!) 📚✨

World Book Day is just around the corner, and we are so excited to be celebrating it in a way that’s creative, inclusive and accessible for everyone.

But first… what is World Book Day and why does it matter?

🌍 What is World Book Day?

World Book Day is a national celebration dedicated to encouraging children to discover the joy of reading. It’s all about promoting a love of books, storytelling and imagination. Schools, libraries and communities across the UK take part each year to help children develop lifelong reading habits.

  • Reading builds confidence.
  • It fuels imagination.
  • It improves language and communication skills.
  • And most importantly — it opens doors to new worlds.

Traditionally, many children celebrate by dressing up as their favourite book characters. And while that can be lots of fun, we also know it can sometimes create pressure.

  • Costumes can be expensive.
  • Some families may struggle to source or create outfits.
  • And we never want anyone to feel left out.

So this year, we’re doing something a little different…

🎨📖 Our World Book Day Design Competition

Instead of dressing up, we’re inviting children to take part in a colouring and book design competition.

Because imagination shouldn’t cost a thing.

Children can:

  • 🎨 Design their own book cover
  • 📚 Create a brand-new story concept
  • ✏️ Base their design on a book they’re currently reading
  • 🖍 Colour and personalise the template in their own unique way

It’s about creativity.

It’s about expression.

It’s about celebrating stories in a way that includes everyone.

🏆 The Prizes

There are THREE £20 vouchers up for grabs 🎉

  • One £20 voucher per age category
  • That’s THREE winners in total
  • Vouchers can be used in our shop

Whether that’s sweet treats, chocolate goodies, or even a workshop or event — the choice is theirs!

📄 How to Enter

We’ve made it simple.

Within this blog, you’ll find a link to:

  • The application form, print off both pages, and use the second page to design and create and that is what we require back.
  • Maybe have your child/children practice first on a separate sheet of paper.
  • The full competition rules
  • The parental/adult consent form

Parents and carers will need to complete the consent section to allow their child’s artwork to be displayed and shared on our social media pages. We will only share their first name and age, so open write that on their design sheet, not their surname name.

💛 Why We Chose This Approach

At the heart of everything we do is community.

We believe World Book Day should be about creativity, imagination and confidence — not about who has the biggest budget for a costume.

By offering a drawing and colouring competition:

No expensive outfits required

No last-minute costume panic

No financial exclusion

Just pure imagination

Every child deserves to take part.

Every child deserves to feel included.

And sometimes, the simplest ideas spark the biggest creativity.

🌟 Let’s Celebrate Stories Together

Whether your child loves fantasy, adventure, animals, superheroes or magical chocolate factories — this is their moment to shine.

We can’t wait to see the creativity that comes through the door.

  • So grab the crayons.
  • Sharpen the pencils.
  • Let the imagination run wild.

And most importantly… let’s celebrate World Book Day in a way that works for everyone 💛📚

We’re so grateful for our amazing community and can’t wait to see the entries come in.

Happy creating!
